Piazza di Santa Maria Novella
The Piazza Santa Maria Novella is adjacent to the Church of Santa Maria Novella. It is situated close by the bus station and rail station, which is the main transport hub in Florence.
Once I arrived here, I was happy to sit down and just relax. It doesn’t get crowded here so you can enjoy the open space with a spectacular view of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.
Piazza di Santa Maria Novella is a terrific looking square. It is a very nice and quite big. However there is not as much atmosphere as the other famous Piazzas. Once you’ve seen it, there really is not much to do. It doesn’t have any statues like the others have. What I did like about it was that there was some grass and flowers here instead of just concrete. It makes for a nice change from the lack of green I had seen in so many squares in Florence.
Overall, it is not much of an actual attraction. There are an abundance of cafes and shops. Do not miss the chance to take photos of the facade of the Church of Santa Maria Novella. You can admire the beautiful facade of the Church while comfortably sitting on a bench.
Once you have done that you can walk to the Church of Ognissanti. You will find Domenico Ghirlandaio’s most spectacular masterpiece Last Supper fresco at this basilica.
